RFID

NSD has developed and is continuing to develop a number of innovative solutions for the logistics supply chain. Whether you're trying to manage your warehouse more efficiently or get real-time information from your haulage fleet, we can help you.

Retail & Warehouse Solutions

Our RFID Solutions for Retail and Warehouse applications use RF technology to automatically monitor the condition of food storage devices and track the whereabouts of transport items.
The same technology is also used for tracking production processes and inventory management which are essential tools to build lean production strategies.

RFID Benefits

  1. Real-time visibility
  2. High inventory accuracy
  3. Automatic data collection
  4. Rapid ROI
Warehouse Insight

It is the warehouse component of our supply chain range of solutions. Its functionality is not limited to that of a traditional Warehouse Management System (WMS) which plans and records the movement and storage of stock based on manual input.
Warehouse Insight delivers real-time "what and where" information without the need for manual intervention. The movement of each truck and every load is monitored and recorded. This information is useful in its own right, but is even more powerful when integrated with a site's WMS.

RFID Asset Tracking in the Supply Chain

NSD provides a range of RFID solutions that are specifically designed to help locate and track assets in an efficient manner saving valuable time and effort whilst at the same time improving asset visibility and utilization.
RFID technology is found in many industries where items need to be tracked or traced, applications include - Asset Tracking, Garment Tracking, Animal Tracking, Document Tracking.

RFID Discovery

For the first time ever NSD has brought together both the features and benefits of Active and Passive RF Technology and come up with their RFID system designed to use a combination of portable and fixed readers to track assets.
Handheld PDA devices fitted with an RF reader can be used to track tagged equipment. A typical range of assets currently being tagged include medical equipment, blood samples to matresses and beds.
Fixed readers can be used to track assets in fixed locations as in a production line facility or a corridor in a building to track staff movements.

RFID benefits extend beyond that of saving time - RF tracking automatically collects the data without user intervention, it doesn't need line of sight like barcodes and does not require the goods to be unpacked from external packaging.
Many RF tags can be read simultaneously and without human intervention which results in a more accurate inventory. When used on a production line it also gives real time visibility of production bottlenecks.
Using RFID technology can help you apply Six Sigma and lean manufacturing processes which in return will lead to a short ROI.

RFID Retail Temperature Monitoring

NSD offers a completely real time wireless temperature monitoring solution to meet your requirements for a fully automated solution as part of your HACCP system.
The solution automatically monitors temperature (and humidity if required), reducing labour and cost. Most importantly eliminating errors and ensuring complete records are maintained in accordance with regulatory compliance.
Applications include in-store storage rooms, chilled and frozen display units as well as warehouses and other locations within the overall supply chain.
The software enables instant notification of alerts and access to reports and data. Data can also be archived and made available for audit or reference purposes.
Alerts are available in a variety of forms such as email, audible, on screen pop-up window, page, VOIP phone or badge alert and text.

The NSD solution can make all the difference in terms of savings and Return On Investment.
We offer a monitoring solution which is the most cost-effective due to it leveraging the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure for a lower cost solution compared to alternatives.
The NSD temperature monitoring solution enables a smooth and optimal deployment and is designed to ensure regulatory compliance, improve consumer safety and increase operational efficiency.

RFID Tracking of Reusable Transport Items

The use of reusable transport items (RTIs) is clearly both green and cost effective, however if you're constantly having to replace them or they're not available when you need them it will have a large impact on your profitability and make it difficult to justify their additional cost.
RFID tracking of your RTIs will give you better visibility right through your supply chain. Better visibility will allow for better utilization of the transport items. Better use of assets means you can reduce pool stock levels as there is no need to maintain the just in case items.
By improving the supply chain process efficiency and reducing losses, RFID tracking of your asset pool operations will achieve payback in a short space of time. As an added bonus; tagged assets will allow for automation of the paper work associated with dispatch and receipt and you can optimize transport for the collection of your assets.
It will also enable you to provide your customers with a better service giving higher RTI availability and without so many losses you can invest in higher quality RTIs and will benefit from many more cycles from them.

RFID Systems Integration

NSD brings together both discrete engineering and existing IT systems utilizing a variety of techniques such as computer networking, enterprise application integration, business process management or bespoke programming to ensure that your systems act as a coordinated whole.

At NSD we believe the role of an RFID System Integrator should include the following

  • Sit down with the customer to discuss detailed requirements
  • Consider how its going to fit in with existing systems and work practices
  • Perform RF site survey
  • Test the existing infrastructure to ensure it can support new hardware (network/power)
  • Select the correct RFID solution for the customer's needs not the integrators pocket
  • Verify that decision with field trials of the proposed solution
  • Project planning that is inclusive of local management
  • Ensure the system can be properly maintained
  • Quick response to support issues - damaged antennae etc.
